Liver & Gallbladder Meridian Clock

Shen Time (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM): Bladder Meridian is in Command Shen Time, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, is governed by the Bladder Meridian, one of the most important energy pathways in TCM. It is referred to as the Taiyang Channel, the most Yang of all meridians. The Bladder Meridian starts at the foot and travels up the back of the legs, alongside the spine, and reaches all the way to the head and brain. This pathway plays a key role in the distribution of Yang Qi and body fluids. Symptoms such as calf pain or back-of-head headaches often signal Bladder Meridian imbalance. These issues, especially when accompanied by declining memory, are signs of Yang Qi failing to rise to the upper body — a deficiency in energy and circulation to the brain. ⚠️ It's important not to mistake the Bladder for just a urine-storage organ. In TCM, this meridian represents an active, dynamic system. The zodiac sign for Shen Time is the monkey, known for its liveliness and agility. In ancient times, this time was considered ideal for reviewing and refining knowledge — as in the saying: “In the morning, study; in the evening, reflect.” A healthy person should feel sharp, alert, and mentally agile during this period. But if you feel lethargic or drowsy in the late afternoon, it's likely a sign of Yang deficiency, especially in the Bladder or Kidney systems.

You Time (5:00 PM – 7:00 PM): Kidney Meridian is in Command You Time, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, is governed by the Kidney Meridian — one of the most vital systems in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In Chinese health culture, the Kidneys are revered, as they store Essence (Jing) — the fundamental energy and material that sustains life. A simple way to understand Essence is to compare it to money: it can be transformed into anything the body needs. If a particular tissue or organ is weak, Essence can transform into that structure to replenish it. This makes it the most creative and foundational force in the human body. For example, if red blood cells are lacking, Essence can be mobilized to generate more. Essence is also deeply related to Original Qi (Yuan Qi), the inborn life force we receive from our parents. This vital reserve is stored in the Kidneys. That’s why, as people age, TCM emphasizes “tonifying the Kidney.” However, no amount of supplements will help if the meridians are blocked or if one’s digestion and absorption are weak. True tonification depends on how well the body can transform and use what it receives. 💡 One of the signs of strong Kidney Essence is ambition and drive. Children with abundant Jing have strong aspirations. In contrast, elderly individuals with depleted Essence often lack motivation. To achieve great things, one must first protect and preserve their Kidney Essence.
